TravelTO: Burj Al Arab

Hey everyone! I've decided to share #MyDubai experience with you all in three parts. Dubai has been a place i've always wanted to visit every since I read about the construction of the Burj Khalifa when I was probably about 8 years old, and afterwards in my first year of high school where I drew the Burj Al Arab for an art project. I've always been drawn to the destination, and I never imagined I would have the opportunity of actually visiting!

The trip was very spontaneous, and I only got 4 days out of Dubai, but those 4 days only made me want to return, which i'm in fact already planning on doing. I got to visit many malls, and a few of the actual touristy destinations. Unfortunately, no beach, but i'll save that for next time.

The Burj Al Arab was unforgettable. Of course, I didn't check in since the nightly rate was insanely high, but I do hope to have the opportunity of one day being able to spend a night there. I was told by my driver that the nightly rate is $2,000 USD.

The hotel is very exclusive, and the only way of getting in is by booking a mealtime. The options are breakfast, lunch, and dinner all of which are buffets. They also have the option of the skybar at the top of the building, as well as a snack time option which is à la carte. My family and I went for snacks, since it was the cheapest option at around $150 per person - we really only wanted to be able to see the inside.

Going into the building you immediately see a beautiful fountain in the shape of a "V" going up to the second floor. Along the sides of the fountain were escalators and the walls were huge aquariums filled with different fish. The second floor had another fountain in the centre, and along the walls of the floor were different high-end stores and restaurants, along will pillars of real plated gold. As you looked up from the second floor you could see the floors of the hotel with ceilings painted different shades of blue and green.

The area where we ate snacks was on the same floor, at the opposite side of the fountain. It was a reserved area rather than a restaurant so the tables were out in the open. Snacks came as 3 courses. The first course consisted of sandwiches, second were scones, and pastries were the final course. Was the money worth the food? Obviously my answer is no. At a rate of $150 for some snacks the food wasn't worth that much money, but it was worth the experience. My family and I had a great time, and had many laughs. It's also one thing I can cross off my bucket list!
